How do I handle warnings that my mailbox is close to or over quota?

Note: some of this information may not apply if you are using Summersault's new control-panel based hosting plans (setup after May 2007).  Learn more about this change.

These warnings indicate that the amount of mail sitting in your account on our server is close to or at the disk quota allocated for your account.

The most common reason for this is that even though you are downloading messages from our server, your mail program is leaving a copy of the messages on the server for a certain period of time. You should make sure you have your e-mail reading program configured to delete mail off of the server when you retrieve messages to your desktop computer, and/or reduce the time that the program leaves the messages on the server. To change this setting, go into your mail preferences for your account with us, and look for a setting to the effect of "Leave messages on server" (and make sure it is NOT selected) or "Delete mail off server" (and make sure it IS selected). The specific method for doing this will vary according to your mail program; consult your software's documentation for more information.

You may also just have a number of messages with large attachments that need to be downloaded and deleted off the server, which will then clear out your account and stop the warnings.
