My ISP is blocking outbound SMTP access through port 25 at Summersault, what do I do?
Some internet service providers (the entities that help you get your home or business connected to the Internet) have chosen not to allow their users to send outgoing mail through port 25 via other service providers such as Summersault. Instead, they require you to send mail only through their own servers on port 25, or in some cases they require you to use a different port. ISPs usually take this step as a way to cut down on the amount of junk mail that a malicious user can send through their system.
If you wish to send outbound e-mail through a hosted e-mail accounts with Summersault, we do require that you have access to outbound port 25 from your system. If your ISP is blocking that access, there is no workaround available that we can implement. Your best option is likely to use the recommended outbound mail settings as provided by your ISP. This will allow the mail to go through, and in most cases it will still appear to come from your Summersault-hosted address. (Note that some ISPs will also restrict you from sending mail from an e-mail address that is not associated with their service.)
If your ISP is blocking your access, consider contacting them and asking them to make an exception for your account. Even if they're unable to do this, it's important that they get feedback from their users about how this policy impacts their customers.
