How do I access my email on a mobile device?

Due to the variety of User Interfaces imposed by the various handset makers, we cannot provide details for all possibilities, but here is the basic information. You'll need to input these into the email account settings page specific to your phone's interface

Incoming Server (IMAP)

Username: your email address
Password: password for this email address
Server: mail.your domain name (ex: mail.abcwidgets.edu)
Port: 995
Security: SSL (accept certificates)
Delete Messages from Server: Never

Outgoing Server (SMTP)

Username: your email address
Password: password for this email address
Server: mail.your domain name
Port: 465
Security: SSL (accept certificates)
Authentication required: Yes

Ipod Touch, iPhone, iPad

Creating a new account

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Mail, contacts and calendars
  3. Add account...
  4. Other
  5. Add Mail Account
  6. Name: your name
  7. Address: your email address
  8. Password: password for this email address
  9. Description: usually the email address
  10. Tap next
  11. Verify Settings
  12. IMAP (so that mail isn't removed from server by this device)
    • Name: your name
    • Address: your email address
    • Description: usually the email address
  13. Incoming Mail Server
    • host name: mail.your domain name (ex: mail.abcwidgets.edu)
    • username: your email address
    • password: password for this email address
  14. Outgoing mail server
    • host name: mail.your domain name (ex: mail.abcwidgets.edu)
    • username: your email address
    • password: password for this email address
  15. Tap next.
Verifying can take a long time; several minutes, in fact... Finally, you may get a security certificate warning. Click "Continue" and the account should be verified. Ensure that "Mail" and "Notes" are turned on, then click SAVE. The account will then be added to the list of email accounts accessible through the "Mail" icon.

Verify an already-created account

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Mail, Contacts, and Calendars
  3. Touch the account to verify
  4. Touch on Account
  5. Verify information for IMAP Account Information
    • Name: your name
    • Address: your email address
    • Description: (usually your email address)
  6. Incoming Mail Server
    • host name: mail.your domain name (ex: mail.abcwidgets.edu)
    • username: your email address
    • password: password for this email address
  7. Outgoing mail server
    • SMTP: mail.domain (ex: mail.abcwidgets.edu)
  8. Click on Advanced and verify the following under INCOMING SETTINGS
    • Use SSL: On
    • Authentication: Password
    • IMAP Path Prefix: Inbox
    • Server Port: 993
